Santa Clarita Congress of Republicans 4th of July Parade
Report from Mark Hershey
Santa Clarita Congress of Republicans participated in our local 4th of July Parade. Our club has entered a float in this parade for at least the last fifteen years. This year’s theme was “It’s a Grand Old Flag.” Our float honored the 100th anniversary of the armistice for World War 1 on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 (November 11, 1918). We had a very large flag over a scene of four soldiers in doughboy helmets sitting in a trench. Our float won first prize for the entire parade. Very proud moment for our club. And nice publicity for Republicans as well.
SCV Congress of Republicans also participated in a barbecue on July 14. Our club joined forces with 38th Central Committee and other local Republican clubs and cooked more than 80 hamburgers and 100 hot dogs. Many side dishes and ice cream bars were included. Several local elected officials spoke and approximately 85 people attended the picnic. The picnic lasted from 11:30 to 2:30 on Saturday, July 14 at a local park that we rented from the City of Santa Clarita.
